Google Video

I've chosen to look at Google Video. I chose this because it is a fairly easy-to-use medium for posting and viewing videos. On the actual site you can upload and view movies, as well as rate them on a scale from 1-5. All of the info on Google Video comes from the users. The ratings, tags, and videos themselves are all user-based. This gives the viewer an idea of what videos are good and which videos are most popular.

Currently in direct competition with Google Video is YouTube. YouTube has most of the same functions, but also has a more comprehensive grouping system to categorize the videos. It also enjoys a greayer populatiry than Google Videos.

The differences between Google Video and YouTube may decrease in the near future, as Google recently purchased YouTube. Story here.

My bank, My computer

Homework 4 asked me to log into theyrule.net and fins a network between two companies of my choosing. I chose Bank of America and Dell Computers. Both are companies that I use. I mantain a checking account at Bank of America and I use a Dell PC. The connection was short, but I knd of expected it to be, seening as how Bank of America is an important company, as is Dell. However, it would have been more interesting to see some more vertices. It's a pretty cool site, but if you're looking at this post, you've probably already seen it.

Leekspin!

This is a segment of a Finnish folk song, put to an animation of a girl from the anime BLEACH! spinning a leek. The language is Finnish scat, so it's pretty much untranslatable. Its catchy, if you're into a mix of a capella/folk music.

Comics

Almost two weeks into the course and this is only the third post. Why? Here's why: Comics. I read comics online mainly because they're free. But some are actually quite good. Some of them. Here are a couple of my favorites:

The Perry Bible Fellowship A newspaper-style strip that's absolutely hilarious. Hilarious and usually downright wrong

Scary-go-Round Imagine a world where pixies have talk shows, jellyfish plot to invade Britain, and Demon-Bears roam Wales. That's the setting for some of the more innane story arcs in this off-centre British comic.

No Rest for the Wicked Remember some of your favorite fairy tales. Now mix that with "The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen". You wind up with an action comic starring a princess, the Puss in Boots, and Red Riding Hood on a journey to free the moon from her prison.

San The Three Kingdoms is a famous Chinese story about the feud between the most powerful figures in Second-Century China. San takes some of that history, then adds copious amounts of humor to get this suprisingly accurate edu-tainment.

A picture

Yeah, I tried to put up a picture, but the ine I have is too big. I'll figure something out later. For now, just imagine real hard.

Here We Go

This is it: the start of a new year, my second one at BU. The semester brings many new things to my life: this blog, for one.

Another new thing is my job. I'm working BU Escort Security Service (it's security escort, not any other kind of escort). The pay is low, but the job entails sitting around until someone wants us to walk them to their dorm. We then walk to them, walk with them to the dorm, then walk back to the GSU. Not too bad for Work-Study. The only downside is the hours. I work from 8pm to 2am on Sundays, and to 3am on Saturdays (that's 3am Sunday morning and 2am Monday morning). Feel free to call us any night after 8 and give us something to do. And one more thing, we don't have the vans anymore, so if you just don't want to walk, too bad.

All this and I still have time for meals. Hooray.
